TEAM DIARY
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! 10th March 2007
On Saturday 10th March the team completed a 53 hour ascent and descent of Mount Kilimanjaro. Their Guide was unable to keep up with them on the climb, with the fitness they'd gained on the two earlier peaks!
They encountered temperatures of -20 on the summit, with a 40mph freezing wind. They saw the sun rise on the top, though, at 6am, which they described as a "truly amazing" experience!
4000m of descent and 40km later, they're now enjoying a well-earned beer, and toasting the success of 3 Peaks Africa for Comic Relief!
Many congratulations to all four of them!
UPDATE! 4th March 2007
Two down, one to go!
After an epic ascent of Mount Kenya (5199m), including a forced bivvi at 5188m with no sleeping bags, food or stove, the 3 Peaks Africa team were forced to retreat from freezing winds and dehydration just 11 metres short of the summit.
They hope that's acceptable, after the hard work they put into the climb.
They're now on their way to Mount Kilimanjaro for round three!
UPDATE! 26th February 2007
One down, two to go!
All four team members made it up Margherita (5109m), the highest summit of Mt.Stanley, on 23/02/07. They spent seven days on foot, and four days on buses.
They're now en route to Kenya for round two.
